Introducing one of our newest additions, Sarah F!
Sarah is a very smart girl who is always willing to help her classmates when they are in need of assistance. She loves to write poetry and read. Her favorite book is Eyes of the Emerilais. One of her many talents also includes hand sewing!
While Sarah is interested in being a great student and good friend, she also finds time to represent St. Peter's on our Volleyball team. She's a great teammate! One classmate writes, "When you are sad, you know you can rely on Sarah to help."
If you think that Sarah is all quiet fun and games, you are mistaken! One of Sarah's secret talents is playing the drums.
Sarah and her friends play a game that they made up called "crazy school." One of Sarah's friends writes, "Sarah likes the classic books and Taylor Swift. We don't have much in common, but we do like tacos. Her most favorite food is popcorn I think. My most favorite is tacos. Sarah can be a little bit weird, just a little. I'd say she is a 5th grader in weirdness. She is very kind."
We love Sarah!

Student of the Week--Morgan
Introducing Morgan, a fun, active, ball of electricity!
Morgan is described by one classmate as "the basketball queen." This classmate goes on to say, "Her calm side resembles...wait...what calm side? Morgan is fun to play with, and its really hard to win ABC tag when she is playing. She has two adorable puppies, and if I didn't have a cat, I would steal them. Morgan is awesome!"
Morgan loves puppies, purple, chocolate, and "she doesn't like Little Debbies that much."
While she is active on our school volleyball team, Morgan's interests don't stop there! She loves the book The Little Princess and she really likes cookie cake.
Morgan is known to her classmates as a nice, smart girl with a lot of energy and excitement for life.
We love Morgan!

Student of the Week--Duke
Duke likes the color blue and really loves McCallie School. Duke was a new student last year, and we have enjoyed getting to know him! "He has moved a bunch of times," says one classmate.
Duke really loves to read the Hardy Boys books, which many of his classmates haven't heard of. We like that Duke is into some good, classic reading! He's also into some good, classic sports like golf, swimming, and distance running!
One of Duke's favorite foods is salted cucumbers. Don't worry, he also enjoys pizza and chocolate!
We love Duke!
Student of the Week--Kailey
Introducing our talented, purple-loving friend, Kailey!
Kailey loves her cat, Kitty Kittens. She is into cheerleading and gymnastics, both of which she is extremely good at. Her friends think that she will be one of the cheerleading captains next year!
Kailey's talents follow her to the classroom as well, and her classmates describe her as a "very smart girl." Her favorite colors are blue, pink, and purple. She loves Dr. Pepper!
One classmate says of Kailey, "She is a kind, devoted student who would like to visit Taylor Swift one day, but I'm pretty sure she already has. Oh and she really likes cheerleading cats with pink uniforms."
She even inspires poetry from her classmates!
Kailey is nice.
She might like mice.
She likes the color blue
and I do, too.
She likes spaghetti
and confetti.
She loves to cheer
I don't know her fears.
Kailey is known as a very kind girl who is always willing to help a classmate in need. She is kind to every one she meets.

Student of the Week--Karleigh
Introducing our black and white kind of gal, Karleigh.
While Karleigh is partial to the black and white color combo, she's a very colorful girl herself. She is always laughing and singing and dancing.
Her favorite thing to do is play with her puppy, and she also loves the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid. One classmate describes her, "Karleigh is AWESOME! She is about to graduate as a senior in weirdness. I call her Karlton. She is also a bacon lovin', puppy ownin', white and random black likin' friend. She is wicked awesome."
Karleigh is a really good artist and a great dancer. She is a great friend who always has something nice to say--we really appreciate that!
While Karleigh is an artsy kind of gal, she also enjoys sports like baseball and volleyball.
We love Karleigh and think she is a great person to be friends with!

Student of the Week--Justin
Introducing Justin, our athletic, fun friend!
Justin has been at St. Peter's for two years now and he loves the color red. As one classmate describes him, "Justin reminds me of a mosquito for some reason. Do not ask me why. He is skinny as a stick, just like Alladin, and somehow, his favorite food is chocolate. But he is not round around the waist. Justin is very interesting."
Justin's favorite activities are football, basketball, soccer, and sleeping. Although he is a quiet guy, he is very active on the playground and on the athletic fields. We are happy to have Justin on our school's soccer, basketball, and track teams!
You might find him most often on a field, but Justin enjoys the classroom as well. His favorite book is Hugo Cabret.
All of his friends call him "J" and we love him!

Student of the Week--Lane
Lane is a color-loving, goldfish-craver with a mind full of sports.
He loves Harry Potter and "basically all the good stuff," says one classmate.
Lane has a passion for Elizabeth V's goldfish and pretzels. Says Elizabeth, "Lane is great, but it gets harder and harder to protect my food. He will stop breathing if I don't give him my goldfish. Sometimes I will lick them all and he won't want them anymore."
Lane has three different favorite colors: black, red, and blue "sort of like a swollen hand," describes one classmate. He enjoys food, especially chips, goldfish, grapes, oranges, ribs, bacon, and pizza, and he really likes to play baseball, soccer, basketball, and football. His friends describe him as a "great quarterback."
Lane is known for taking up for his classmates when they are hurt or have been hurt by others. He is a good friend to his classmates.

PINK DAY!
Yesterday marks 6 years since Emily Ransom flew to heaven. She was a vibrant, blonde headed, pink loving 2 year old who put up an amazing fight against neuroblastoma, the cancer that ultimately took her life, and taught everyone around her what it means to love and what it means to persist.
Here at St. Peter's, we celebrate Emily with Pink Day every year--dressing in our pinks and reds, parading out to Emily's garden carrying signs and posters, and remembering to Pink It Forward. When someone shows you kindness, keep that kindness going by showing it to someone else.
Throughout the month of February and into March, we will be collecting coins in our classroom to benefit Emily's Power for a Cure, the nonprofit organization Emily's parents, Wendy and Jonathon Ransom, started in her honor. This small organization has managed to perform huge feats for our community. Last year, the organization was proud to unveil the southeast's first child-specific CT scanner at our very own T.C. Thompson's Children's Hospital at Erlanger. In addition, they provide support for local families dealing with neuroblastoma.
Please join the fight and keep the pink power going by Pinking it Forward with your kindness and your coins!

Student of the Week--Elizabeth VD
Introducing our most eclectic friend, Elizabeth!
Elizabeth is very kind and smart, and she wears a great confidence. She is not afraid to let her crazy side hang out and she enjoys taking on different roles in plays. As one friend says, "she enjoys doing...well, just about anything!" Her interests include acting, reading, drawing, writing, baseball, and long division. Long division?! Yes, Elizabeth enjoys a challenge.
She really loves tacos and the color red--perhaps she likes red tacos?!
One of the most interesting things about Elizabeth is that she would rather be called "Calvin," so most of her classmates do. Her favorite cartoon characters are the classic Calvin and Hobbs, and Elizabeth really seems to relate best to Calvin.
Elizabeth "can be super funny" and is "always there for you."
One of the most memorable Elizabeth moments was her performance in last year's school talent show where she got up on stage with a 3 man band and sang a song. It was beautiful!

Student of the Week--Nick
Introducing our smart, funny friend, Nick!
One of Nick's classmates describes him best:
"Nick is a very interesting person. He likes Minecraft and he's normal, which is something I don't have: NORMALNESS. I, apparently, am not normal enough for him, since he thinks I'm a bit weird. Of course, he is a little weird himself, so I think he isn't best at being normal, he's probably best at Minecraft." :)
It is true that Nick could probably play Minecraft all day, but there is more to him than that! Nick adores pizza and his favorite color is black. He has an older brother and a younger sister. One of his greatest talents is making his classmates laugh.
Nick enjoys football and is a "great running back," says one of his classmates. He likes to play soccer, too.
One classmate says, "He can be funny, crazy, and very loud, but he is nice."
While Nick won't tell us what his favorite book is, we are all sure that he has one. He reads a lot of Harry Potter books, so maybe that is it.
Regardless, we love Nick!

Student of the Week--Sara
Introducing our cheerleading, gymnastically talented friend, Sara!
Sara has been with us at St. Peter's for three years now. She is always willing to help and make situations better. Sara is a very good friend. As one of her classmates puts it, "I should know. While she was sick, instead of watching TV and feeling bad for herself (like me--I was sick, too), she made me a necklace. She is always nice and thinking of others."
Sara has a reputation for helping her classmates, especially when they have been hurt. She doesn't like to see anyone in pain.
Sara loves being a cheerleader for our St. Peter's sports teams, as well as being a talented gymnast. Both of these activities take great self-discipline and confidence. Fortunately, Sara considers herself a performer! On occasion, however, Sara can be very shy, just like anyone else.
One of Sara's classmates says, "Sara is someone I can always rely on and she has a great smile." When you first meet her, she may seem quiet, but she is a sweet, funny girl who loves to have fun.

Student of the Week--Faith
Introducing our friend who wears many hats, Faith!
Faith is an all-around great girl. She loves dance, school, sports, art, and probably any option you could give her.
Faith plays basketball for our school and she can play really well. She is very funny and creative. She is also very nice and encourages kids to do better when other students do "sort of bad on their work."
After moving to Chattanooga from Florida this year, Faith has jumped right in and made good friends. She has an uncanny ability to make you laugh when you are sad.
Faith enjoys reading a lot, particularly Little House on the Prairie. That may be why Faith is very good at "remembering all kinds of things that most of us forget."
Faith dances for the Chattanooga Ballet and we went to see her in this year's production of the Nutcracker. She also cheers.

Student of the Week--Eva
Introducing our newest artsy friend, Eva!
Eva came to our class after Christmas looking for something new. She has added a great deal to our classroom environment. We love that Eva loves art and wants to incorporate it into everything we do!
Eva also loves to read. She will sometimes choose to read during recess instead of playing, but when the weather is nice, who can blame her?
Our class thinks Eva "knows what to do" because she is very responsible and takes time to be a good friend. She is an individual because she is "one of the most creative people" and isn't afraid to put her creativity out there for everyone to see.
Additionally, Eva loves dance and would someday like to be a dance teacher. She also loves mix-breed puppies! Eva's classmates describe her strengths as: "being nice, being silly, liking cheese, and being a good friend." She is an individual because she has her own way of doing things. "She is nice to everyone and never leaves anyone out." Eva also does a great job of "paying attention in class," which is sometimes hard to do in a class that is as fun as ours!

Student of the Week--Foster
Introducing our fish-in-the-water, Foster!
Foster loves to swim and it takes up much of his time outside of school. He dreams of swimming for a good high school and possibly swimming in college. Beyond that, he says he would probably enjoy being a professional swimmer.
Foster came to us this year from Philadelphia and we love hearing his stories!
Most of his classmates agree that Foster is surprisingly funny. At first, you might think that Foster is quiet and reserved, but given a little time, you will soon find that Foster is quick witted and enjoys making his friends smile. There aren't many people who sneeze like Foster, and that makes us all giggle!
One classmate says, "Foster is an individual because not many people can cheer friends up like him. One time Foster had to edit my paper and he said that all I needed was a different introduction. That was very nice of him."
Some day, Foster would like to visit California and possibly pet a tiger.
His classmates all agree that Foster's strength is the peace-maker of the group. He is always being kind and does not like to see his classmates argue.

Student of the Week--Bradley
Introducing our laid-back athlete, Bradley!
Bradley is very athletic and he plays basketball, football, and baseball. While it is great to be good at sports, it is even more important to understand being a good sport and teammate. Bradley grasps this concept very well. He is kind and patient with his teammates and his classmates.
"Bradley's strengths are being kind, being helpful, and being there for people. He is an individual because not many kids are kind and helpful like that."
Even though Bradley is very athletic, he is also known for being clumsy. He has had several concussions (but not over the limit!) and he has somehow managed to not break any bones.
When he grows up, Bradley would like to play for the MLB and own a Chimpanzee.
While Bradley probably would not describe himself as being academically talented, he is. He is strong in science, math, and english. One of his classmates says, "I have seen him do all of these and he is actually good at them, even though he thinks he isn't." Bradley is described as "funny" over and over again. He is able to be so funny because he is smart.

Weekly STORM Chaser
It has taken us some time to get back to our regular blog schedule as we have returned from the break and gotten back into the swing of things. There have been several changes and additions!
We welcome our new friends Eva and Josh into Mrs. Green's class!
With these additions, Mrs. Green will now be teaching Reading to her homeroom, which will tie nicely into her Language Arts class. Because Mrs. Gallagher needed to finish up the quarter with her Reading class, Mrs. Green's Reading class will start with her on Monday.
Report cards will go home on Wednesday and parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Friday, January 27th. If you have not set up a time and still need to, please contact your homeroom teacher.
Core Knowledge Night is coming up February 16. This open house is a great display of all the hard work your kids have been up to!
The Auction is coming up February 18! We have started on our class auction projects. Each class is doing something different to display our unique personality as a class. We feel certain that you will love them!
We have spent the last week (plus a few days) working diligently on our Hero Projects. This writing process is new to your children and we want them to understand the process of writing a 5 paragraph paper. We are very aware that they have not done this before and that it is challenging!
Because of the rainy, cold weather, we did our TrailWise indoors this week. Mr. Mark taught us all about tying knots and the strength of a rope. We also got to make our own rope bracelets or necklaces!
And we cannot forget to congratulate our hard-working basketball teams! The 4th grade makes up the majority of our basketball players this year on both the girls' and the boys' teams. While the first few games were hard fought losses, the girls came through with a win on Thursday at OLPH! Elizabeth W. hit a 3-point shot to put us in range, and then Faith stepped up and hit both free-throws to put us ahead. It was a thrilling game and everyone played great!

Student of the Week--Kali
Introducing our silly little friend, Kali! Kali is a crazy-in-a-good-way, Dr. Pepper, and purple hippo loving 10 year old girl.
Kali is wildly imaginative and spends most of her day flitting through the classroom spreading her creativity. She is very academically driven and has no problem putting in some hard work before flying off to her next assignment. Most of Kali's classmates would love to be paired with her for any project. As one classmate states, "we had to do this art project together and it looked awesome."
Kali has an eye for detail and hopes to work in the fashion industry one day. She loves the color purple and voices this opinion openly.
While Kali is talented creatively and academically, she is also an athlete. She favors yoga and volleyball. One of her strengths is being a good sport--she enjoys playing and doesn't take it too seriously.
"Kali is an individual because she will always be a good friend and is never mean. If you add up her ideas, her personality, and her kindness, you have never met a person just like her."

Student of the Week--Riley O.
Introducing our history buff, train loving friend, Riley O!
Riley enjoys the color magenta and, as one
classmate puts it, "is OBSESSED with trains!" Riley loves trains and everything about them. He is very smart with trains and spends his free time building model trains. When he grows up, he wants to be a train engineer. He would also like to visit Read Town, PA one day.
Riley joined our school mid-year last year and everyone has had a great time getting to know him and his funny personality. Riley loves to joke around and get a good laugh out of his friends. In fact, many describe that as one of his strengths.
One classmate says, "Riley is an individual because he is a different person and a good person to look up to. He doesn't seem to care what anyone else thinks about him, and that is cool."
Riley is known to his friends as a good listener and someone you can go to when you need to be cheered up.
Next time you see Riley, you should ask him about his pet Potbelly pig named Pickles!
We love Riley O!
